Entrance to Son Rise

Entrance to Son Rise

The Son Rise Mission Inn offers comfortable, homey accommodations to people of all ages. We are conveniently located on the island’s main road, between major resort areas and where many of the locals live. Both our location and our facility allow you to stay inexpensively and with the
conveniences you are used to back home while you experience making a difference in a third world country.

Right across the street and up the hill live a few thousand people who need just about everything imaginable a person requires to exist. Within walking distance is a volunteer medical clinic that could always use help. Up the street is an orphanage whose house parents can use a little relief help. There are many more places to serve as well.

Regular Hotel Room at Son Rise

Inn History

The inn was once a 25 room hotel. In 2004 the main dining room became a church sanctuary on Sundays and the bar where alcohol was once served became an espresso bar. We began renovating rooms for visitors who contribute to our ongoing work in the community. Rooms are connected via a covered walkway that often becomes a gathering spot as well.

Team Rooms and Meals

Missionary teams are supplied with private rooms with bathroom that can accommodate up to six people. Bedding, towels, and three hearty meals are provided per day. The meals can be taken in the dining room or in the espresso bar.

The Dock

A short walk from the Inn through our courtyard and past a colorful local village takes you to the oceanfront. Part of our facility includes a dock right on the blue Caribbean. It is easy to swim from this dock to the reef offshore for snorkeling or diving.

Because we share the facility with Calvary Chapel Roatan, there is a weekly church schedule during which you might want to join us:

  • Sunday 10 AM worship service and bible study (Spanish & English)
  • Tuesday 10 AM Hispanic women’s bible study
  • Wednesday 7 PM “Knot” church – an informal fellowship meeting at which the bible is discussed, coffee is served, & everyone is welcome
  • Friday 6:30 AM men’s Bible study
  • Friday 3 PM Hispanic women’s prayer group

House Requests

We believe that you will feel more comfortable staying here if you respect our Christian values by unmarried couples requesting separate rooms, refraining from profanity, enjoying alcoholic beverages off premises, should you desire them (there are many little beach bars and restaurants nearby), not engaging in illegal activities such as drugs, and not smoking on premises.
